Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, here taking part in Friends of Syria conference, today urged the friends of Syria to act promptly to assist the Syrian people to enable them defend themselves against a tyrant oppressing regime in Damascus. In a key address, Prince Saud Al-Faisal said the tragic situation in Syria will not alter, and might further deteriorate, unless the world community decisively and promptly act to end this tragedy. He said the world community will have no way but to provide assistance to the Syrian people to enable them defend themselves. Diagnosing the case, Prince Saud Al-Faisal said the situation is further aggravating to an unprecedented low, citing the fall of nearly 100 victims per day in Syria, the influx of hundreds of thousands of Syrian people, including women, children and elders, to neighboring countries, and the use by Syrian regime of all kinds of destructive weapons, including Scud missiles, against civilians. On the other hand, the Damascus regime was adamant to offer the military solution, reject all world pleas to opt to peaceful solution and, regrettably, some other countries manage to provide him with weapons, the Saudi foreign minister stated. The result is further complicating the scene before world senior political players to reach a consensus on the situation in Syria, leading to more victims, injured, arrestees, and displaced and more destruction of the country itself, he added. --More
