At least six workers were killed as a fire raged through a garment factory in the Bangladeshi capital on Saturday, firefighters and police said. According to dpa, the workers, all of them female, died either of stampede or suffocation after the fire broke out on the first floor of the Smart Garments factory in Dhaka's north-western Mohammadpur neighbourhood. Fifteen other employees are receiving treatment at area hospitals. A short circuit may have caused the fire, said Abdul Halim, assistant director of the Fire Service and Civil Defence department, adding that it took firefighters nearly two and a half hours to douse the flames.
