At least seven people have been killed and as many as 100 injured Tuesday in a garment factory fire near the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka, police said. The army joined the rescue operation and firefighters from all over the capital city were called in to battle the blaze, UPI quoted the BBC as reporting. A police spokesman told the British broadcaster that many workers trapped in the 11-story building sustained injuries jumping to safety. One police inspector said he saw at least six people jump from the roof of the building. Others were injured in a stampede to escape the flames. Bangladesh has some 4,000 garment factories that export more than $9 billion worth of goods each year.
