The United States will be sending Syria an additional $10 million in humanitarian assistance to help alleviate hunger in northern parts of the country, the State Department said Friday. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters that senior U.S. aid and refugee officials have been in Turkey visiting camps for uprooted Syrians and speaking with Turkish officials. Nuland said that the U.S. officials will head to Jordan later today (Saturday), while U.S. Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford will be traveling to Paris to speak with the French government. One of the results of the trip will be $10 million in new U.S. aid, the spokeswoman said. Nuland said that the money is "primarily directed at getting flour into the north of Syria, into bakeries in Aleppo, where there's a real need."
