A bomb blast Friday killed at least three people and injured several more in north-western Pakistan, officials said according to dpa. The explosion occurred near the office of Taliban commander Maulvi Abbas off a busy market in Wana, the main town of the South Waziristan tribal region, local administration official Hameed Ullah said. "Preliminary reports suggest a remote-controlled bomb was detonated," he said. An intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the dead were Abbas, his son and a supporter. Six people were injured, some seriously, he said, quoting local informers. Reports could not be immediately verified because the region in largely off-limits to journalists. Abbas is thought to be a close aide of the region's main Taliban leader Maulvi Nazir, who survived a suicide bombing in Wana late last month with only minor injuries.
