Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa asserted that moving from the phase of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to a phase of Gulf Union is a major strategic step. In a press statement after his today's meeting with Speaker and members of Bahraini Representatives Council, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain pointed out that "Ever since the day on which the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced at the 32nd Session of the GCC Supreme Council in 2011 in Riyadh the proposal of moving from the phase of GCC cooperation to the phase of Gulf Union, the proposal was welcomed and blessed by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and that the Kingdom of Bahrain will implement agreed steps in this regard which constitute a popular demand." "Accordingly, the Kingdom of Bahrain has appointed its representatives at the level of the Gulf Union's Body which has been formed in order to achieve this noble goal which had been proposed by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques aimed to move from the phase of GCC cooperation to the phase of the Gulf union between the GCC states," Shaikh Khalid Al Khalifa said. He also confirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain's keenness on maintain the GCC entity and building on and developing and to give more powers to the GCC entity which has developed over the past three decades by virtue of efforts of the GCC leaders and peoples.
