The government says floods and lightning killed six people in Sri Lanka and hundreds have been displaced by landslides. Spokesman Sarath Lal Kumara from the Disaster Management Centre said heavy rains caused the flooding over the weekend. Three people drowned in the Hambantota district on the southern coast and another drowned in a central area of the island country. Two other deaths were due to lightning. The rains also caused landslides that prompted 364 people to evacuate their houses in the Nuwara Eliya district in the island's mountainous region, according to a report of the Associated Press.
