France will lobby the European Union to relax its embargo on the supply of weapons to opposition groups in Syria, dpa cited Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius as saying. "France's position is that we must not militarize the conflict but that it is obviously unacceptable that there are liberated zones which are being bombarded by Bashar (al-Assad)'s planes," Fabius told RTL radio. "For the moment there's an embargo so there is not weapon being supplied from the European side," Fabius said. But France will ask the embargo on "defensive weapons" be lifted after receiving a request from the Syrian National Council, the new opposition council that France has recognized as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people.
