AlHijjah 16, 1433, Nov 1, 2012, SPA - A gas tanker caught fire on Thursday morning on Khurais Road, east of Riyadh, after it hit one of the bridges along the road because of a traffic accident on its route, which led to a gas leak towards an Equipment and Vehicles Showroom adjacent to the site, resulting in traffic incidents that caused a number of deaths and injuries, said the Official Spokesman of Civil Defense in Riyadh, Captain Mohamed Al-Hubail Al-Hammadi. In a statement to Saudi Press Agency, the Official Spokesman said "The gas leak caused significant damages as a result of fire and explosion, which occurred in the incident due to the spread of gas at the site, resulting in a number of traffic accidents and leading to a number of victims". He said that the Director General of Civil Defense Lieutenant General Saad bin Abdullah Al-Tuwaijri, Director of Civil Defense Department in the Riyadh region Major General Abed bin Matar Al-Sukhairi; rescue teams of Civil Defense and Red Crescent; traffic police; security patrols and support services, dealt with the incident immediately and followed up its developments. The Spokesman disclosed that there will be an announcement later, on any updates of the incident.
