AlHijjah 2, 1433, Oct 18, 2012, SPA -- The U.N. refugee agency said Thursday the number of Syrian refugees who have fled their country's civil war to seek shelter in Egypt now has surpassed 150,000, a significant jump from last month's figure of 95,000. Mohamed Dayri of the office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in Cairo that despite the "increasing spillover" into Egypt, less than 5,000 Syrians have registered with the agency in Cairo.
