More than 200,000 Syrians have fled the violence in their country, with 30,000 registering in neighboring countries this week alone, the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) said Friday. There are now 202,512 registered Syrian refugees, up from 170,116 a week ago, the agency said. A record 2,200 Syrians crossed into Jordan late Thursday. They were taken to the Za'atri refugee camp, the UNHCR said. The large number of Syrians crossing into Jordan on the night of August 23 had fled from various towns and villages and far exceeded the previous record one-night figure of 1,254 refugees entering Jordan earlier in the week, the agency said in a statement.
