AlQa'dah 12, 1433, Sep 28, 2012, SPA -- Heavy fighting raged in northern Syria Friday as opposition fighters claimed they have started "a decisive battle" to push President Bashar al-Assad's forces out of the strategic province of Aleppo, according to dpa. Videos posted on apposition websites showed trucks carrying Free Syrian Army fighters inside Aleppo, being greeted by people clapping and chanting "God is great, the battle of Aleppo has started." It also showed the head of the city's largest opposition grouping, Tawheed Brigade, surrounded by fighters announcing the attack. "With God's willing, we will be victorious," Abdul-Kader al-Saleh said. "Our fighters started their battle after midnight and they are carrying out fierce clashes inside the key neighbourhood of Seif al-Dawla," opposition commander Abu Omar al-Halabi told dpa. Government forces and opposition fighters have been fighting for control of Aleppo, Syria's commercial hub, for more than two months, as part of a nationwide armed struggle against the regime.
