Al-Akhdar Al-Ibrahimi, the UN-AL joint envoy to Syria, returned to Egypt this evening coming from Damascus following a four-day troubleshooting visit to Syria during which he had talks with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. In an arrival statement at Cairo International airport, a spokesman of the UN-AL envoy said Al-Ibrahimi had intensive talks during his stay in Syria with a number of Syrian officials, including the president, opposition figures and civil society dignitaries in Syria. He said it is most likely that Al-Ibrahimi would meet again with Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi to talk about his initiative. He would also meet with the Secretary General of the Arab League in Cairo Dr. Nabeel Al-Arabi and members of the Quartet in charge of the situation in Syria within Morsi's initiative, he added. It is also scheduled that the envoy would fly to New York to meet a number of world leaders and heads of delegations on the fringes of the UN General Assembly meetings before heading back to the region to kick off a long tour of Syria neighboring countries to discuss ways of solving the stalemated-crisis in the embattled country.
