Dr. Nabeel Al-Arabi, Secretary General of the Arab League, warned from the dangers of increasing violence in Syria, citing the surge of violent incidents in the Arab country and fall of thousands of victims. In a joint press conference with Ali Ahmed Karti, Sudan's Foreign Minister in Cairo today, he said the situations in Syria are diving to an unprecedented bottom and that the Arab League is committed to the Arab Foreign ministers resolutions tackling the transitional period in Syria and drawing the road map to achieve a settlement for the Syrian crisis and peaceful transition of power. He said he is in daily contact with the UN-AL joint envoy to Syria Lakhdar Al-Ibrahimi, who, Al-Arabi said has a complete vision for solving the problem. Al-Ibrahimi will meet with the UN Security Council on Syria on the 30th of this month. For his part, Karti expressed confidence in Al-Ibrahimi's experience and diplomatic skills, citing his role in reaching Al-Taif agreement among the Lebanese foes. He said new ideas will be presented at the forthcoming Arab Foreign ministers meeting in September, hoping that the new envoy would make a breakthrough of the Syrian crisis. On disputes on water among Nile basin countries, he said Sudan and Egypt are planning to exert further efforts to increase their bilateral cooperation on Nile water.
