As many as 63 states and financing institutions participating in Consultative Group Meeting (CGM), a preparatory gathering to lay the ground for Yemen Donors Conference scheduled for New York on the sidelines of the 67th United Nations General Assembly, reaffirmed their commitment to back up Yemeni national conciliation government designed to bring about peace, stability and prosperity through adopting the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states' initiative for Yemen, signed in November 2011 as well as the staged program for stability and development that runs in harmony with the objectives of the GCC-sponsored initiative. In a joint communiqué issued by the CGM, both the countries and institutions welcomed the program, priorities and list of tasks envisaged the Yemeni government which specify both short and medium term plans, in addition to financing mechanisms, which pinpointed the role to be played by Yemeni, regional and international civil societies, humane organizations and private sector. The statement announced that donors at the two-day meeting held in Riyadh today underscored the importance of supporting the implementation of the GCC-sponsored initiative, signed in November 2011, particularly making the current transitional period a success. -- More
