The Extraordinary Islamic Solidarity Summit issued yesterday the final communiqué at the end of its deliberations in Makkah. In response to the invitation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, to the leaders of member countries of the Organization of Islamic cooperation (OIC), the 4th Extraordinary Islamic Solidarity Summit was held in Makkah on 26 and 27 Ramadan, 1433AH corresponding to August 14-15, 2012. The summit was opened with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, then, delivered a speech. The opening session was addressed by the President of Senegal Macky Sall, in his capacity as president of the Islamic Summit Conference and Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The Conference expressed its thanks to and appreciation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for his call for the convening of the Extraordinary Islamic Solidarity Summit to enhance Islamic solidarity, as well as for the Government and people of Saudi Arabia for their generous hospitality and continuing support for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The Summit welcomed the results achieved in applying the Ten-Year Programme of Action adopted by Makkah Extraordinary Summit in 2005, which is based on the principles of moderation, modernization and solidarity in action, and in particular the adoption of the Charter and the new name of the organization, and the establishment of Permanent Independent Human Rights Commission, Women's Development Organization, Department of Humanitarian Affairs of the General Secretariat; and the Organization of Science and Technology and Innovation. It called on Member States to intensify their participation in the implementation of the programs included in the ten-year program of action and to enhance their cooperation within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation through the signing and ratification of the conventions and multilateral treaties in the context of the organization in order to be in force. --More
