The number of Syrians seeking refuge in neighbouring countries has reached at least 125,000, dpa cited the European Union's top official on migration as saying Monday. EU Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom spoke to reporters after the bloc's interior ministers were briefed by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). The UNHCR told ministers that there were 125,000 Syrian refugees, Malmstrom said. "But that is the number they counted, it is probably higher." On top of that, "there are more than 1 million internally displaced" people within Syria, the commissioner added.
