The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia called today on the world community to adopt a firm and apparent position obliging the Syrian regime to give up its security option and accept the political approach to solve the Syrian crisis, according to the UN-AL joint envoy Kofi Annan plan. In a speech before the 3rd Syria Friends Conference, which concludes in Paris today, Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, asked the conferees to apprehend three matters and advised them to do three others as follows: First thing, the Syrian regime was no longer worried about the Syria Friends conferences. Second, the Syrian regime was no longer ready to accept any solution that conduces to a political settlement since it still receives diplomatic, political and military support by a super power. Third, the Syrian regime has entered a new phase pushing it to the brink of collapse as the number of defectors is increasing on one hand and the number of civil supporters is decreasing every day on the other. Accordingly, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia suggests the following: 1- We have to adopt a firm and clear position obliging the regime to give up its security option and accept the political approach to solve the crisis, according to the six-point Annan plan 2- We have to be more serious in forwarding the Syrian issue to the United Nations Security Council to take a resolution obliging it to obey to Annan plan according to the 7th Chapter of the United Nations Charter. 3- We have to exert every effort to unify the Syrian opposition ranks to play its expected role within the power transition process and paving the way for a new era in Syria that achieves the aspirations of the Syrian people, Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz said. He described the Syrian opposition figures meeting, held in Cairo two days ago under the sponsorship of the Arab League, as an important step on which we have to build on.
