The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud chaired the cabinet session held at Al-Salam Palace here today. In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following the session, Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohieddin Khoja said the Cabinet highly appreciated the King's order to implement a major expansion of the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, stressing that the Project of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz for the Expansion of the Prophet's Mosque will be implemented in three phases with a total capacity of 1,600,000 worshipers. This order came as part of the King's efforts in the service of Islam and Muslims, including the implementation of the largest expansion in history of the Holy Mosque in Makkah and his keenness to provide services to the visitors of the Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah, Khoja said. Dr. Khoja said the Cabinet discussed a number of reports on the latest developments and their repercussions on the regional and international arenas, including the on going tragic situation in Syria and the international efforts of the Geneva Peace Conference to contain the crisis. In this regard, the Cabinet reiterated the Kingdom's request of the international community to take decisive measures to stop the massacres against the Syrian people and to end the sufferings caused by genocide and humanitarian misfortunes. Greater efforts are required to deal with this crisis in a manner leading to immediate cessation of the massacres and full implementation of the joint UN-Arab League envoy's plan which aims to reach a political solution to the crisis and responds to the aspirations of all Syrian people, without selectivity, at a specified date. --More
