As part of its responsibility towards preserving the environment, and to spread the message of responsible behavior within the community, the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), represented by its manufacturing affiliate, Saudi Iron and Steel Company (HADEED), launched recently a 15-day road cleaning campaign on a 40-km stretch of the Jubail-Dammam Highway, from the King Faisal Bridge to the Ju'aymah Bridge, which will conclude on June 4. Under the slogan, “I can ensure a clean environment,” 1,000 SABIC employees are taking turns to remove tons of waste strewn along the road, in coordination with government and security agencies. The campaign is being carried out in two shifts: 5am to 10 am, and 3 pm to 7pm, with 150 employees participating in each shift, according to a press release. The cleaning effort includes removal and disposal of metal, glass and plastic cans, bags and other litter caused by people, besides vehicle waste, such as oil cans and tires, and automobile carcasses. --MORE The sweeping teams are also focusing on construction debris and discarded equipment, which are not only eyesores, but also hazardous to the environment. All heavy scrap is removed using special equipment and machines with the highest standards of safety. As part of the campaign banners have been put up spreading awareness about the importance of cleanliness, and plastic trash bags are being distributed among motorists. A roadside exhibition outlines the various stages of the cleaning campaign, and highlights the company's recent social responsibility campaigns. Badr bin Mohammed Al-Otaishan, Jubail Governor, praised SABIC's initiative and expressed happiness over the successful campaign. He thanked the SABIC management and its employees for their relentless efforts to serve society and the country, reflecting the company's commitment to conduct business ethically under its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.
