The drive launched by citizens of Jubail City and employees of the Saudi Iron and Steel Company (Hadeed) led to the recovery of over 100 tons of metals, steel, glass, iron and plastic pipes, tires, abandoned fishing nets, and remnants of sunken ships buried for decades. The massive discovery of industrial waste buried in Jubail coastline prompted citizens to request authorities in Jubail Industrial City and Saudi Arabian Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) to conduct investigation and penalize companies found guilty. Hassan Al-Ghannam, President of Hadeed, praised members of the community who volunteered their services in cleaning the beaches. Some 50 employees of Hadeed and 60 volunteer divers helped in the clean-up drive for 15 days until the beachfronts were cleared of industrial debris and waste material. Hadeed spearheaded the clean-up drive as part of the company's corporate social responsibility program. __
