U.S. stocks finished lower on Friday, as investors weighed ongoing worries about Europe against an optimistic report on American consumers. In world markets, European stocks ended higher, led by the DAX in Germany and the CAC 40 in France both rising 0.4 percent. Asian markets ended mixed, as the Shanghai Composite fell 0.7 percent and the Hang Seng in Hong Kong rose 0.3 percent. The U.S. dollar rose against the euro and rose against the yen. Light sweet crude oil for July delivery rose 39 cents to $91.04 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold futures rose $7.80 to $1,565.30 an ounce. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 74.92, or 0.6 percent, to 12,454.83. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 2.86, or 0.2 percent, to 1,317.82. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 1.85, or 0.1 percent, to 2,837.53.
