Sharq International School opened Monday a three-day celebration of its 5th founding anniversary with dances by schoolchildren in colorful costumes. The celebration started at 1 P.M. with a parade of colors by students and teachers from the open-sky school campus to the covered gymnasium where the dance contests were later held. Assistant Labor Attache Wesley Gacutan was the guest speaker. He gave his message after the opening remarks by school principal, Jose N. Ostos Jr. The contests in field demonstration and cheer leading were participated in by schoolchildren from the preschool up to high school. Durat Al-Sharq, popularly known to the Filipino community as Pearl of the Orient International School, is owned by Sulafa Ahmed Youssuf, a Filipina married to a Saudi national. On Tuesday, the celebration was highlighted by a Quiz Bee contest in science and mathematics for schoolchildren in intermediate and high school levels. Quizmasters for first year and second year high school students was Armida Villareal; Danny V. Feria for third year and fourth year students and Susan Cabalonga for intermediate pupils, The celebration closes today, Wednesday, with the Spelling Bee contest. Robert C. Torcedo is quiz bee master for the elementary level and Danny Feria for the high school level. The curtain falls with a family day for the staff, schoolchildren and their parents.
