Saudi Arabian Airlines on Wednesday began its first direct international flight service from Abha Airport to Egypt. Flights will depart from Abha at 2 P.M. each Wednesday, with return flights leaving Egypt at 9.30 P.M. on Fridays. Further new additions to the list of international destinations are expected as figures for flights to and from Abha in 2008 show Saudi Airlines to have hosted 1,311,000 passengers, accounting for ten percent of all the carrier's passengers. The number of flights operating through Abha airport has risen by 77 since 2006.
