CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs ace Jake Arrieta, who is a candidate for the Cy Young Award as the top pitcher, became Major League Baseball's first 20-game winner of the season Tuesday. Arrieta pitched a solid complete game outing, striking out two batters in the ninth in the Cubs 4-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field stadium. Arrieta, who improved to 20 wins and six losses on the season, got all the support he needed on third baseman Kris Bryant's third inning two-run home run. The 29-year-old Arrieta gave up just three hits, struck out 11 and walked one. Arrieta is the Cubs' first 20-game winner since Jon Lieber went 20-6 in 2001. It was his fifth consecutive game of eight or more innings and his fourth complete-game of the season. Phillies 6, Marlins 2: Right-hander Aaron Harang earned his first win since July 30 while third baseman Cody Asche hit two solo homers to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-2 win over the Miami Marlins. Harang (6-15) allowed seven hits, two walks and two runs in seven innings, shutting down the Marlins (64-87) in a battle between two of the worst teams in baseball. Braves 6, Mets 2: Matt Wisler earned his first win in almost two months while Jace Peterson and Hector Olivera each homered during a four-run fifth inning that lifted the Atlanta Braves to a 6-2 victory over the New York Mets. Wisler (6-8) pitched seven-plus innings, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out eight. He was 0-7 with a 7.71 ERA in 10 games since his previous win on July 26. Cardinals 3, Reds 1: St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher John Lackey (13-9) struck out seven, scattered nine hits and did not walk a batter in their 3-1 win over Cincinnati. The Cardinals improved to 95-56 while the Reds fell to 63-87.

Tigers 2, White Sox 1 (10 innings): Rajai Davis hit a walk-off triple in the 10th inning after Tyler Saladino's ninth-inning triple foiled Detroit's bid for a combined no-hitter in the Tigers' win over the Chicago White Sox. The only White Sox baserunner during those innings was center fielder Adam Eaton, who was hit by a Krol pitch to start the seventh inning.
