LG takes Saudi National Day to the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 13 - 09 - 2015

Deuk Soo Ahn (third from left, second row), President of LG Electronics Saudi Arabia, and other LG Saudi Arabia officials, pose for a group photo with the young men and women team members of the upcoming Mount Kilimanjaro journey

CELEBRATING the Saudi National Day in a unique and special way, LG Electronics partnered with Qimmam Adventure Club of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to take the Saudi flag to Mount Kilimanjaro on foot and raise it on its peak in the morning of the Saudi National Day itself.
It's not only an adventure of a lifetime for the Saudi men and women members of Qimmam – an adventure club focusing on promoting the outdoor activities in Saudi Arabia and spreading outdoor awareness and ethics – but an extraordinary honor to the young trekkers to unfurl their national flag on the Roof of Africa on the glorious day.
Standing true to its slogan “Life is Good”, LG Electronics, seizing the opportunity to extend its corporate social responsibility, and at the same time makes a difference in promoting social consciousness in the community, took the initiative of sponsoring and supporting the flair for adventure of the energy-packed and adventure-seeking group by taking another impressive activity and this time, a momentous event filled with patriotism and nationalistic fervor.
“On this occasion, a group of young Saudis and friends from different nationalities, (Egyptian, Syrian, South Korean) living in Saudi Arabia, have decided to take the extra mile celebrating the National Day this year to climb the Kilimanjaro, so that by the 24th of September 2015 they will reach the peak of this mountain to take up the Saudi flag,” LG said in a statement on Wednesday during the introduction of the team members for the upcoming feat.
“This sense of patriotism and belonging, coupled with the flair for adventure … has met the strong open support from LG Electronics Saudi Arabia,” it added.
“When Qimmam came to us with the concept, our decision for LG to sponsor and support this activity was quickly taken. We found it an excellent tribute to the Saudi country, leadership and people, on their National Day, in style and in line with LG's inspirations toward encouraging living life with all its realities, nature, outdoor, adventure,” said Deuk Soo Ahn, President of LG Electronics Saudi Arabia.
He added “at LG, we embraced this special celebration day, the “ life is good” LG way, which means being faithful to LG vision and mission, in seeking the best and highest levels of initiatives and innovations, and especially promoting fitness, health and well-being.”
Under the sponsorship, LG is providing the members of the group LG's new flagship smartphone LG G4 so that that can save every moment of their adventure in a very vivid way on their phone and also use to the fullest the many awesome features of G4 “from the unbelievable camera that comes with 16 MP and supported by the improved OIS+ technology, to the health application that provides stamina summary, to the great screen with IPS Quantom display that shows the beauty of all LG G4 features.”
Mr. Ji of LG Electronics will be joining the team. The team's Mount Kilimanjaro program includes 7 days of full activity. On the first day, a 2,980m trek will be made to reach Machame Camp and on the second day, the team has to endure 3,840m hike to reach Shiram Camp.
To reach Barranco Camp on the third day at 3,950m further requires extra energy before that team can propel to Karanga Valley at 3,930m on the fourth day.
The team then hikes on the fifth day to Barafu Camp at 4,550m, followed by a triumphant ascent to the summit of Africa to hold aloft the Saudi flag.
On the sixth day, the team will trek downhill to Mweke Camp at 3,100m. On the last day of the adventure, the trekkers will return to Kilimanjaro National Park/Mountain Gate at 1,000m.
“May this celebration day be a memorable day for years and years to come, I wish Saudi Arabia, its leaders and good people the very best ever,” Deuk Soo Ahn added. — SG
