Syeda Amtul Saudi Gazette JEDDAH — Kazi Muhammad Siddique Haseeb, the principal of the Hasa Modern International School in Al Ahsa, was awarded the National Award 2014 for the best teacher. He received the National Award from the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee. Haseeb is the only person chosen for the award from the Gulf Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) — Schools. Earlier he received the best teacher award in 2012, and got the best mentor award from the Indian government in 2013. The National Award includes a silver medal, certificate and Rs.50,000 as award money. Overall 338 teachers were given the National Award 2014. These awards were instituted in 1958. From mid sixties onward, Sept. 5 has come to be the date of investiture to accord public recognition to meritorious teachers working in elementary and secondary schools. Instituted in 1958, the National Award to Teachers are given away by the President of India on Sept. 5 (Teacher's Day) every year to give public recognition to meritorious teachers working in primary, middle and secondary schools. Altogether there are 374 awards out of which 20 awards are reserved for Sanskrit, Persian and Arabic teachers. Each state/union territory/organization has an earmarked quota based on the number of teachers. The scheme also covers teachers of the schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) including teachers of independent affiliated schools situated abroad, Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), Sainik School, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Central Tibetan School Administration (CTSA) and schools run by the Atomic Energy Education Society.
