curricular activities, particularly sports, are as important as academic studies at the schools, said former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev, while addressing the parents at an international Indian school here. Kapil was invited as the chief guest at the Annual Day function of Darassulam International Delhi Public School (DPS) here Thursday. The former captain of Indian cricket team urged the parents to give equal importance to sports activities, which he said is an essential part in a child's growth. “Sports activities play an essential part in a child's overall growth,” Kapil, who was the keynote speaker on the occasion, said. Kapil said he has a lot of respect for the teaching profession. “In my opinion teaching, as career, is the best and honorable profession. Those who have reached new heights in life by becoming scientists, doctors or company CEOs all received training from a teacher,” he said. He said a teacher is someone who imparts the best values of life to the students and lead them to achieve new milestones. Kapil, who won India the World Cup, urged the students to respect their teachers and concentrate on their studies. He released ‘Desert Breeze' a souvenir on the occasion and presented certificates and prizes to the meritorious students of the school, which is affiliated to New Delhi-based Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). A large number of students crowded to get autographs from the cricketing icon. He also participated in an exhibition match in Riyadh Saturday morning.
