BALTIMORE — New York right-hander Jacob deGrom allowed one run over 7-2/3 innings while Curtis Granderson hit two homers as the Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-3 in an Inter-League game Tuesday. The result snapped the Orioles' four-game winning streak. DeGrom (12-6), last season's National League Rookie of the Year, gave up five hits with one walk and six strikeouts. “I just try to go up there and put up zeros and let the rest take care of itself,” said deGrom, who lowered his ERA from 2.03 to 1.98. DeGrom retired 11 straight batters before allowing a two-out double to shortstop J.J. Hardy in the fifth. “He one of the best in the game,” Mets manager Terry Collins said about deGrom. “I talk to other managers and he is one of the first guys they ask about. He's very, very good. Blue Jays 8, Phillies 5: Third baseman Josh Donaldson hit two homers and drove in four runs as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies. Donaldson, who went 3-for-4, put the Jays ahead with a three-run shot off Philadelphia reliever Jeanmar Gomez in Toronto's five-run sixth inning. First baseman Edwin Encarnacion also homered in the sixth for the Jays, who won for the 16th time in 19 games. Royals 3, Reds 1 (13th inning): Ben Zobrist hit a game-tying solo homer off Aroldis Chapman in the ninth inning then Jarrod Dyson raced home on a throwing error in the 13th to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Other results: Athletics 5, Dodgers 4 (10 innings); Tigers 10, Cubs 8. American League Red Sox 9, Indians 1: Rookie left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez pitched eight innings while the Red Sox collected 16 hits to beat the Cleveland Indians. Rodriguez struck out five and did not walk a batter. First baseman Travis Shaw had four hits, second baseman Brock Holt three while David Ortiz contributed two doubles. Yankees 8, Twins 4: Designated hitter Alex Rodriguez hit a grand slam with one out in the seventh inning as the New York Yankees rallied for an 8-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Mired in a 1-for-27 slump, Rodriguez drove a 1-0 fastball from rookie right-hander J.R. Graham (0-1) into the Yankees bullpen beyond the center-field fence. Mariners 3, Rangers 2: Seattle right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma gave up just five hits in seven innings to help the Mariners beat Texas. The Mariners gave Iwakuma more than enough run support in the top of the first, scoring three times off Chi Chi Gonzalez. Designated hitter Nelson Cruz lined an RBI double to left field before right fielder Seth Smith hit a two-run homer into the Texas bullpen. Other results: Astros 3, Rays 2 (10 innings); Angels 5, White Sox 3. National League Pirates 9, Diamondbacks 8 (15 innings): Pedro Florimon's triple in the bottom of the 15th inning gave the Pittsburgh Pirates a 9-8 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Catcher Francisco Cervelli hit a two-out single off rookie left-handed reliever Keith Hessler (0-1) for his fourth hit of the game before Florimon followed with a triple off the right-field wall. Nationals 15, Rockies 6: The Washington Nationals, aided by some shoddy Colorado pitching, broke a six-game losing streak by blasting the Rockies 15-6. Rockies pitchers issued 10 walks (one intentional), and eight of those runners scored. The Nationals also scored two runs on wild pitches while a balk led to another run. Angels 5, White Sox 3: Angels starter Garrett Richards went seven strong innings in a 5-3 win over the Chicago White Sox. Richards allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits, striking out four and walking none. He improved to 12-9 and lowered his ERA to 3.50. White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu had three hits off Richards, including an RBI double. Other results: Marlins 9, Brewers 6; Giants 2, Cardinals 0. — Agencies
