Published in The Saudi Gazette on 03 - 08 - 2015

LOS ANGELES — Left-hander Clayton Kershaw extended his streak of consecutive scoreless innings to 37 while leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in an Inter-League game Saturday in front of 52,979 at Dodger Stadium.
Kershaw (9-6) retired the final 14 batters he faced, permitted only two hits and a walk and finished with seven strikeouts in eight innings.
The left-hander took the mound in the top of the ninth inning to an ovation, but was replaced by right-handed closer Kenley Jansen when C.J. Cron was announced as a pinch hitter.
The Angels lost their fifth consecutive game to match their longest losing streak this year.
Angels manager Mike Scioscia was ejected in the second inning by plate umpire Chris Segal for arguing balls and strikes.
Astros 9, Diamondbacks 2: Catcher Hank Conger and shortstop Carlos Correa each hit two home runs as the Houston Astros produced a 9-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Conger clubbed his seventh and eighth home runs, the second of which was a grand slam, while Correa hit his 11th and 12th to account for the Astros' four homers and eight of their nine RBIs.
Giants 9, Rangers 7 (11 innings): San Francisco right fielder Hunter Pence blasted a solo homer to left in the 11th inning to lift the Giants to a 9-7 come-from-behind win over Texas.
The Giants trailed by three in the eighth inning against new Texas starter Cole Hamels but rallied against the Rangers bullpen and set the stage for Pence.
Hamels went 7-2/3 innings, giving up eight hits and five runs in his 97-pitch effort. He also struck out six.
American League
Red Sox 11, Rays 7: Third baseman Travis Shaw slugged the first two home runs of his major league career and had three RBIs as the Boston Red Sox produced an 11-7 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Shaw finished with a career-high four hits and also scored five runs, becoming the first Red Sox player to do so since Dustin Pedroia scored five times against the Texas Rangers on Aug 12, 2008.
Shortstop Xander Bogaerts and right fielder Rusney Castillo each drove in three runs for Boston, who pounded out 16 hits.
Royals 7, Blue Jays 6: Ben Zobrist hit two home runs while Yordano Ventura pitched seven innings as the Kansas City Royals came back to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays.
Ventura (6-7) allowed six hits and five runs in seven innings while Greg Holland pitched the ninth for his 23rd save.
The Blue Jays opened a 5-1 lead on home runs by Josh Donaldson and Jose Bautista in the fifth before the Royals cut the lead to one with a three-run sixth.
Orioles 6, Tigers 2: Caleb Joseph and Manny Machado both homered while starter Kevin Gausman threw seven solid innings as the Baltimore Orioles recorded a 6-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers.
Joseph went 2-for-3 and had an RBI single in the second and a two-run homer in the fourth off Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez (10-8). Machado went 2-for-4 and scored twice.
White Sox 8, Yankees 2: John Danks rebounded from a rough outing as the Chicago White Sox recorded a 8-2 win over the New York Yankees.
Danks, who allowed seven runs in Boston during his previous start, posted the win, going 5-2/3 innings and allowing one run, three hits and four walks. The left-hander tied his season high with eight strikeouts.
Twins 3, Mariners 2: Kurt Suzuki's RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Minnesota Twins to a 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners.
The walk-off win was Minnesota's fifth this season and kept the Twins one game ahead of the Baltimore Orioles for the second wild-card spot in the American League.
A's 5, Indians 1: Right-hander Aaron Brooks allowed one run in 7-1/3 innings in his Oakland debut while shortstop Marcus Semien hit a solo home run to lift the A's to a 5-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians.
Brooks (1-0) came to the A's on Tuesday from Kansas City along with minor-league right-hander Sean Manaea in a trade for utility man Ben Zobrist. Brooks was pitching for Triple-A Omaha at the time, but the A's promoted the southern California native to the big leagues. He gave up five hits, struck out five and walked none.
National League
Padres 5, Marlins 3: San Diego right-hander Odrisamer pitched the Padres to a 5-3 victory over the Marlins.
Despaigne allowed five hits, one walk and three runs in six-plus innings. He struck out five and improved his record to 5-7.
Mets 3, Nationals 2: First baseman Lucas Duda accounted for all of the New York Mets' runs in a 3-2 victory over the Washington Nationals.
Duda clubbed two solo home runs and drove in the deciding run with a double that scored Curtis Granderson, who had led off the eighth inning with a double to give the Mets a 3-2 lead.
Phillies 12, Braves 2: Catcher Cameron Rupp and shortstop Freddy Galvis hit three-run homers as the Philadelphia Phillies battered the Atlanta Braves. Center fielder Odubel Herrera added a solo homer among his three hits. First baseman Ryan Howard also had three hits and an RBI for Philadelphia.
