MAKKAH — Al-Maabdah branch municipality in Makkah has closed down five shops and groceries for various violations, including a lack of cleanliness and poor hygiene. It also seized a large quantity of foodstuffs, fruit, vegetables and juices. Khaled Bin Ahmed Basfar, head of the municipality, said the inspectors detected a number of violations, including random display of the fruit and vegetables, bad storage and workers without health certificates, during a raid. He said more than 150 kilograms of rotten vegetables and foodstuffs were seized and destroyed, in addition to more than 30 cartons of fruit juices and water. Basfar said a number of cooking utensils were also destroyed because they were not suitable for use.
