Badea Abu Al-Naja Saudi Gazette MAKKAH — The Al-Shawqiyyah branch municipality in Makkah has closed down five big restaurants for a number of health violations including the use of expired food ingredients. The municipality deployed a number of inspection teams to make surprise raids on food and trading establishments to ensure they were abiding by health and safety rules. The inspection tours included eateries, fast-food restaurants, kitchens and bakeries. The municipality's chairman Mamdouh Bin Mohammed Iraqi said large quantities of expired food and rotten meat were confiscated and destroyed. “These quantities were two truck loads and were more than a ton,” he said. Iraqi said large quantities of fruit juices, soft drinks and cooking utensils were also confiscated and destroyed. He urged the citizens and expatriates to cooperate with the municipality and report any violation in any of the restaurants, bakeries or shops.
