RIYADH — A total of 23 men suspected of involvement in acts of terrorism were arrested in various parts of the Kingdom over the past eight days, an official source said on Sunday.
The source said police found weapons and documents confirming the men's involvement in terrorist plots. The suspects included 18 Saudis, three Pakistanis and two Yemenis. The Saudi suspects are in their 30s.
The men were accused of having contacts with Daesh (the self-proclaimed IS) and were also suspected of involvement in the disappearance of 21-year-old woman from her home in Buraidah on July 17.
Police suspect the woman might have been kidnapped and handed over to Daesh custody.
Security authorities announced last week that they had broken up several Daesh cells and arrested more than 400 suspects, mostly Saudis, in an anti-terrorism sweep.
The detainees include suspects in attacks on security patrols in Riyadh and bombings in the Eastern Province.
The operatives had planned attacks on diplomatic missions and conducted a reconnaissance on one of them. They were also working to identify the houses of a number of security men in a plot to assassinate them.
