RIYADH – Authorities in Saudi Arabia have arrested nine people, including two foreigners, over the past two days for involvement in suspected terrorist activities in various regions of the country, security sources said on Thursday.
The suspects surrendered to police without putting up any resistance, the sources said, adding that several electronic equipment and documents were seized from them.
The men, most of them in their 20s, included seven Saudis, a Yemeni and a Syrian.
They were being questioned to determine their association with the Daesh (the self-proclaimed IS).
The sources said the men did not receive any training in armed combat or explosives making and the Saudi suspects did not take part in any fighting along with armed groups outside the Kingdom
But the foreign detainees had previous associations with foreign groups and they were believed to have come to the Kingdom to recruit new members and provide them training, the sources said.
With the latest arrests, the number of detainees in the custody of the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution has reached 4,208.
