NEW YORK — Gerrit Cole settled down after a shaky start to notch his major-league-high 12th win as the Pittsburgh Pirates came from behind to beat the Cleveland Indians 5-3 in their Inter-League outing Sunday. The right-hander allowed three runs and five hits in eight innings with five strikeouts and one walk. He was winless in his previous two starts. American League Red Sox 5, Astros 4: The Boston Red Sox continued their march back to respectability when designated hitter Hanley Ramirez one-handed a two-run homer over the Green Monster off left-hander Tony Sipp to beat the Houston Astros. Mariners 2, Athletics 1: Seattle pitcher Mike Montgomery allowed a run for the first time in nearly three weeks but still managed to win his third consecutive start as the Mariners downed the Oakland Athletics to salvage a series split. National League Mets 8, Dodgers 0: Left-hander Steven Matz and right-hander Logan Verrett combined for a three-hit shutout to lead the New York Mets to a rout of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Matz (2-0) retired 15 of the final 17 Dodgers he faced in his second major league start. In six innings, the rookie scattered two walks, hit one batter and amassed eight strikeouts. Nationals 3, Giants 1: Jordan Zimmermann went seven strong innings and Wilson Ramos connected for a home run as the Washington Nationals completed a three-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants. Brewers 6, Reds 1: Gerardo Parra and Adam Lind homered and the surging Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cincinnati Reds for their eighth consecutive victory, their longest winning streak since April 2014. Cardinals 3, Padres 1: A day after recording his first major league hit, run and steal, Tommy Pham was at it again, belting his first home run, driving in all three runs and leading St Louis to victory over the San Diego Padres.
