Published in The Saudi Gazette on 07 - 07 - 2015

NEW YORK — Gerrit Cole settled down after a shaky start to notch his major-league-high 12th win as the Pittsburgh Pirates came from behind to beat the Cleveland Indians 5-3 in their Inter-League outing Sunday.
Cole (12-3) found his range to set down 16 consecutive batters after the Indians took an early 3-0 lead.
The right-hander allowed three runs and five hits in eight innings with five strikeouts and one walk. He was winless in his previous two starts.
American League
Red Sox 5, Astros 4: The Boston Red Sox continued their march back to respectability when designated hitter Hanley Ramirez one-handed a two-run homer over the Green Monster off left-hander Tony Sipp to beat the Houston Astros.
The last-place Red Sox (39-45) earned their 11th win in their last 17 games and closed their American League East deficit to six games. The victory also wrapped up their third straight series win.
Mariners 2, Athletics 1: Seattle pitcher Mike Montgomery allowed a run for the first time in nearly three weeks but still managed to win his third consecutive start as the Mariners downed the Oakland Athletics to salvage a series split.
Montgomery's scoreless run ended at 20 innings. It is the second longest scoreless streak by a Mariners rookie, behind only Mark Langston's 21 innings in 1984.
Rays 8, Yankees 1: Erasmo Ramirez and two relievers combined on a three-hitter as the Tampa Bay Rays ended a season-high seven-game losing streak with a rout of the New York Yankees.
Angels 12, Rangers 6: Right fielder Kole Calhoun had four RBIs as Los Angeles finished off a three-game sweep of the Texas Rangers with another emphatic victory.
Blue Jays 10, Tigers 5: Right fielder Jose Bautista and first baseman Justin Smoak homered during a six-run fifth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays halted a three-game losing streak with a win over the Detroit Tigers.
Orioles 9, White Sox 1: The Baltimore Orioles broke out of an offensive funk with 15 hits and avoided a sweep by beating the Chicago White Sox.
Royals 3, Twins 2: Eric Hosmer's walk off run-scoring double in the ninth scored Lorenzo Cain as the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins.
National League
Mets 8, Dodgers 0: Left-hander Steven Matz and right-hander Logan Verrett combined for a three-hit shutout to lead the New York Mets to a rout of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Matz (2-0) retired 15 of the final 17 Dodgers he faced in his second major league start. In six innings, the rookie scattered two walks, hit one batter and amassed eight strikeouts.
Nationals 3, Giants 1: Jordan Zimmermann went seven strong innings and Wilson Ramos connected for a home run as the Washington Nationals completed a three-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants.
Brewers 6, Reds 1: Gerardo Parra and Adam Lind homered and the surging Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cincinnati Reds for their eighth consecutive victory, their longest winning streak since April 2014.
Cardinals 3, Padres 1: A day after recording his first major league hit, run and steal, Tommy Pham was at it again, belting his first home run, driving in all three runs and leading St Louis to victory over the San Diego Padres.
In other games it was: Phillies 4, Braves 0 (10 innings); Cubs 2, Marlins 0; Rockies 6, Diamondbacks 4. — Reuters
