LOS ANGELES — The Colorado Rockies ended their 11-game losing streak in dramatic fashion, thanks to a guy they've always relied on to come through in clutch situations. Carlos Gonzalez hit a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning, and Colorado sloshed its way to a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday night following a rare rain delay at Chavez Ravine. “I really can't put it into words how hard and difficult it's been for the club and for myself,” Gonzalez said. “It's one of those stretches that you really want to get over with, and it finally happened tonight. It took longer than what we expected, with all the rain, but we kept grinding. That shows a lot of respect. Everybody pushed all the way until the end.” The Rockies were rained out three times during their most recent homestand, including a game with the Dodgers last Saturday that was rescheduled for June 2 at Coors Field. Right-hander Rafael Betancourt (1-1) pitched a perfect eighth inning to get the win. Adrian Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Dodgers (22-12). Reds 4, Giants 3 Marlon Byrd hit a go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning after Johnny Cueto delivered another solid outing, and the Cincinnati Reds held on for a victory over the San Francisco Giants. Cincinnati (18-17) improved to 21-8 against the Giants over the past four seasons behind a strong seven innings from Cueto, who allowed two runs on five hits and three walks. He struck out nine. Tim Lincecum allowed three runs in 4 2/3 innings and took a no-decision for the Giants (17-18). Phillies 4, Pirates 2 Aaron Harang threw eight scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out six, and Philadelphia took advantage of several Pittsburgh miscues to salvage a split in the four-game, interstate series. Through four home starts, Harang (4-3, 2.03 ERA) has allowed just two runs in 29 1/3 innings (0.61 ERA), the best home ERA among qualified starters in the National League. Ryan Howard hit his seventh home run of the season in the fifth inning for the Phillies and went 3-for-4. Cubs 6, Mets 5 A seventh-inning passed ball gave Chicago a go-ahead run that led to a win and a series sweep over New York. Manager Joe Maddon claimed his 800th career win as the Cubs won their fourth in a row. Recker hit two solo home runs and Wilmer Flores hit one for the Mets. Padres 8, Nationals 3 Cory Spangenberg's two solo home runs and Derek Norris' five RBIs lifted the San Diego Padres to a win over the Washington Nationals. American League Rays 6, Yankees 1 The Tampa Bay Rays pulled within a game of first place in the American League East with a victory over New York. Tampa Bay (20-16) got five scoreless innings from right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (1-1), who won for the first time in more than a year and 25 appearances. Tigers 13, Twins 1 Miguel Cabrera triggered a three-run first inning with an RBI single and later added a pair of two-run homers and Detroit starter Anibal Sanchez checked Minnesota on five hits in eight innings. Cabrera's first home run came after Ian Kinsler doubled to lead off the sixth inning and his second, his eighth homer of the season, came the next inning after consecutive triples by Anthony Gose and Kinsler. Red Sox 2, Mariners 1 Mookie Betts blooped the go-ahead sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to help the Boston Red Sox steal a win over the Seattle Mariners. Hanley Ramirez went 4-for-5 for the Red Sox (17-18) and reliever Matt Barnes (2-0) got the win. Nelson Cruz went 3-for-3 for the Mariners (15-19). Other results: Astros 6, Blue Jays 4; Royals 6, Rangers 3. Inter-League Cardinals 2, Indians 1 Matt Carpenter's two-run homer in the eighth inning sent the St. Louis to a 2-1 win over Cleveland at Progressive Field. Carpenter's home run snapped a streak of 17 consecutive innings without a run by the Cardinals, who still won two of three games in Cleveland. — Agencies
