JEDDAH – Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior, has issued directives to demolish Braiman Prison buildings in Jeddah governorate and reconstruct the reformatory with the latest specifications at a cost of SR400 million to accommodate over 2,700 inmates. This was announced to Okaz/Saudi Gazette by the Director General of Prisons in the Kingdom Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Al-Hamzi. He said: “Braiman Prison is formed of two sections. The first is for detaining prisoners who are still being investigated or have not received final verdicts. These will continue to be in Braiman Prison. The second section is the reformatory. All its dormitories will be demolished and rebuilt just after relocating the prisoners to the new reformatory in Dhahban.” Answering a question by Okaz/Saudi Gazette on the case of the video clip taken inside Braiman Prison showing prisoners injecting themselves with drug said to be heroin, Maj. Gen. Al-Hamzi said the results of the investigations will be announced in the coming few days. He said there are several authorities participating in the investigations. They include the Drug Combat Department and the Directorate General for Prisons.
