What's the most complex, largest machine ever built by humans? It's the electric grid. In our world, 1.4 billion people are living without access to electricity. Tackling this issue in an integrated approach can have profound educational benefits at home and abroad by training local solar engineers and pairing access to power with schools. IEEE Smart Village is a donor-supported program currently serving over 15,000 people through local partners in Cameroon, Haiti, India, Kenya, Nigeria and South Sudan. The IEEE Smart Village goal is to provide basic electrical and educational services to more than 50 million people by 2025. Dr. Avnaesh Jayantilal, a member of IEEE Smart Village, spoke at a TEDx event about “Community Microgrids for a Sustainable Future.” See his talk through https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN_6Jm_I9Lk
