ABHA — The Ministry of Agriculture has acted to remove mangoes sold in Asir after discovering unknown chemicals in them. Asir Ministry of Agriculture Director Fahd Al-Qarteesh said citizens have been complaining that the mangoes had holes punctured on their surface. The mangoes were analyzed at a lab in Jazan and the results showed an unrecognized substance had been injected into the fruit. He added Asir Municipality ran an inspection campaign covering all local grocery stores and supermarkets to ensure mangoes are off the shelves. The municipality is also inspecting street sellers and markets as the season for summer fruits and vegetables is nearing, usually attracting illegal sellers.
