LOS ANGELES — Manchester City's scheduled friendly against Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo Thursday was cancelled after flooding left the pitch unsafe, the clubs said. City had travelled to Houston after a 1-0 friendly win over Toronto FC Wednesday, when torrential rain had already swamped portions of Texas and Oklahoma. Despite the efforts of the Dynamo grounds crew, a pitch inspection Thursday raised concerns, and match officials ultimately deemed it unsafe. Premier League runner-up Manchester City was to travel to new York to watch its MLS sister club New York City FC take on Houston at Yankee Stadium in an MLS match Saturday. City manager Manuel Pellegrini said the team was “bitterly disappointed” for fans. — Reuters
