Rodriguez dazzles in Red Sox win
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 30 - 05 - 2015

ARLINGTON, Texas — Boston starter Eduardo Rodriguez tossed seven scoreless innings and the Red Sox handed Texas pitcher Nick Martinez his first loss of the season with a 5-1 decision in the American League Thursday.
Dustin Pedroia collected three hits, while Hanley Ramirez homered in the sixth inning for the Red Sox (22-26) who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Rangers (23-25) starter Martinez was charged with two runs in seven innings as he fell to 4-1.
White Sox 3, Orioles 2 (First game)
Chris Sale struck out 12 in 7 2/3 shutout innings and Melky Cabrera and Adam LaRoche both contributed RBI doubles in the sixth inning as the Chicago White Sox posted a victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the first game of a doubleheader.
The doubleheader is the makeup for games postponed April 27 and 28 because of rioting and unrest in Baltimore.
Orioles 6, White Sox 3 (Second game)
Six different Orioles drove in a run and the Baltimore bullpen threw four scoreless innings in a win over the Chicago White Sox in the second game of a doubleheader.
Center fielder Adam Jones, first baseman Chris Davis, catcher Steve Clevenger, shortstop J.J. Hardy, right fielder Travis Snider and left fielder David Lough each contributed an RBI. The Orioles (22-24) scored the final four runs after the White Sox (21-25) took a 3-2 lead in the third inning.
Angels 12, Tigers 2
Designated hitter Albert Pujols, left fielder Matt Joyce and catcher Chris Iannetta combined for three home runs and eight RBIs, leading the Los Angeles Angels to a rout of the Detroit Tigers.
Los Angeles (24-24) broke a two-game losing streak, while Detroit (28-21) saw its two-game winning streak end.
Athletics 5, Yankees 4
Third baseman Brett Lawrie and center fielder Billy Burns each homered, and the Oakland A's came from behind to defeat the New York Yankees.
Burns hit a solo shot in the fifth inning and Lawrie a game tying two-run blast in the sixth as the A's ended their two-game skid and snapped the Yankees' three-game winning streak. The Yankees (25-23) lost for the 10th time in their past 11 games in Oakland (18-32).
Indians 5, Mariners 3
Cleveland ace Corey Kluber gave up two home runs for the first time this season, but the Indians offense did enough to extend his winning streak to three consecutive decisions in a victory over the Seattle Mariners.
Cleveland (22-25) had a three-run fourth inning on the way to a 5-1 lead, but home runs by Seattle catcher Mike Zunino and left fielder Dustin Ackley kept the Mariners in the game. Ackley's two-out, two-run homer in the sixth brought Seattle within 5-3, but the Mariners (23-24) managed only one hit the rest of the way.
National League
Giants 7, Braves 0
The San Francisco Giants recorded their fourth consecutive home shutout, breaking open a tight game with a six-run eighth inning en route to a win over the Atlanta Braves.
Chris Heston combined with relievers Jeremy Affeldt, Sergio Romo and Javier Lopez on a four-hitter as Giants (29-20) pitchers ran their streak of consecutive scoreless innings at home to 37 to kick off a seven-game homestand.
Pirates 11, Padres 5
Jung Ho Kang, Gregory Polanco and Starling Marte homered while Andrew McCutchen, Neil Walker and Francisco Cervelli had three hits apiece as Pittsburgh powered past the San Diego Padres to stretch the Pirates' winning streak to seven games.
The Pirates (25-22) had 15 hits.
Right-handed starter A.J. Burnett improved his record to 5-1, although he allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings to see the National League-leading, 1.37 ERA he owned entering the game climb to 1.81. — Reuters
