Butt hits century as Murtuza and Waqas shine with ball

JEDDAH — Ejaz Butt hammered a century, while Murtuza and Waqas Ahmed took 5-wicket hauls in the matches played in the Modern Pioneer Premier and Afternoon cups at WPCA here recently.
The tournament is sponsored by Modern Pioneer Company and organized by Western Province Cricket Association (WPCA).
Premier Cup
Crown Steel thrashed AOT by 80 runs. Crown Steel piled up 159 for 9 as Khurram Karamat scored 47 in 18 balls. Nadeem Amin stroked 34, Waqas Ausaf 16 and Aijaz Sagheer 18 not out. Ilyas took 3-29, Qaiser Lateef 2-24, Imran 2-25 and Zeeshan 2-53.
AOT was bowled out for 79 as Murtuza bowled devastatingly to claim 5 wickets for 11 runs. Zeeshan (23) and Qaiser (18) were the only batsmen to put up some resistance. Aijaz Sagheer bagged 2-17 and Shoaib Ali 2-30.

MCH punished Hala Friends by 7 wickets. Hala Friends posted 177 for 7 as Hassan Malik hit 24 and Waqar 62 as the duo added 75 for the first wicket. Once the opening pair was separated Hala lost wickets in a heap with only Abdullah Essa adding 14 and Imtiyaz 25. Mohammed Taiyyab took 2-15, Jameel 2-19 and Amjed one.
My Care Hala reached 179 for 3 in 94 balls as Qamar Abbas hammered 84 in 47 balls with 3 sixes and 11 fours and Shahbaz Rasheed compiled 24 as the two added 66. Skipper Babar Hussain remained unbeaten on 28. One scalp each was taken by Wajahat Shah, Saleem and Waqar.
Afternoon Cup
United Cricket Club (UCC) trounced Contraco by 4 wickets. Contraco posted 149 with Shehzad making 40, while Akbar and Khurram added 17 each. Yasser Ameen claimed 4 for 20, while Amir and Sohaib took 2 each. UCC skipper Raja Mudassir hammered 52, Irfan Ghulam 17 and Imran Asad 26 not out. Shakeel took 2 wickets.
Nestle Milo humbled Hala School by 27 runs. Nestle Milo racked up 218 for 5 as Ijaz Butt blasted 106 in 51 balls studded with 4 sixes and 14 fours.
Abdullah Zahid compiled 92 with 2 sixes and 8 fours. The two added a record 190 runs for the second wicket. Sami grabbed 2 wickets.
Hala School managed 191 for 8 through Tariq (56), Anas Malik (19), Aftab Malik (26) and Mohsin Baig (33 not out). Ejaz Butt bagged 3-33 and Bilal Malik 2.
AOT Youngsters defeated NAI Juffali by 46 runs. AOT Youngsters produced 141 for 3 as Malik Hasnain scored 23, Noman 21, Salman remained 43 not out and Zakir 36. NAI Juffali was bundled out for 95 as Ashfaq made 28. Rameez got 3-16, Waseem 3-23 and Saqlain 3-15.
Jotun Paints downed Lothers by 4 wickets. Taking the strike first, Lothers make 163 for 4 as Yasar scored 26. Adarsh top scored with unbeaten 70 off 42 balls while Mushtaq contributed 30. Saleem took 2 wickets. Jotun Paints achieved the target of 164 for 6 as Salman dominated with an unbeaten 63, Sajid 21 and Shafeeq 32. Badushah scalped 3-33.
Fuchs Alhamrani defeated E.T. Zone by 9 wickets. Alhamrani chasing 110, was home for the loss of one wicket in 66 balls as Nazaish smashed an unbeaten 53, Nasir Khan 23 not out and Irfan Anjum 18.
Choudhry-XI had the last laugh against Waqas-XI by 8 wickets. Waqas produced 135 for 9 as Rana Haroon scored 61 and Tariq 32. Waqas Ahmed bowled brilliantly to return figures of 5-10. Zahoor and Asif bagged 2 wickets each. Choudhry-XI reached 141 for 2 in 100 balls as Adeel Hafiz remained unbeaten on 66 (4 fours and 2 sixes), while Asif made 21, Zahoor 31 and Atiq 17.
