RIYADH — The Ministry of Interior has said it has 3,797 inmates in its high security prisons, Al-Hayat reported. A police source reported 80 percent of the inmates are Saudi and 20 percent are expatriates. He said: “There are 3,194 Saudi inmates in the Kingdom's prisons. “They were arrested for terrorism and for threats to national security. “Crimes of terrorism are usually supported by terrorist organizations inside and outside the Kingdom. “It is our job to not only arrest the criminals carrying out terrorist acts but also the organizations planning them.” He added there have been a total of 52 Syrians arrested in the Kingdom during the past six months. “The Kingdom's prisons have a total of 116 Syrian inmates so far. “Sixty-one of the Syrian inmates are still under interrogation, six have been sentenced, and 33 are being forwarded to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution.” He added there are also five Iranians, four Lebanese and six Iraqis who were arrested over the course of one year for various crimes. — SG
