Mishal Al-Otaibi Saudi Gazette RIYADH — A patrol car of the Highway Security Force was involved in an accident on Friday while chasing a car that violated traffic regulations. Both cars collided and turned upside down, injuring patrol policemen and the passengers in the other car. The incident occurred in Al-Kharj at around 4.30 a.m. The patrol team noticed a Camry model car moving in opposite direction and then gave it a chase, asking it to stop. The speeding car hit at a concrete fence on the roadside and lost control. This resulted in a collision and all those in both cars sustained moderate and minor injuries. According to police sources, those traveling in the Camry appeared to be intoxicated. An unloaded revolver was recovered from the accident scene. In a related incident, a man who tried to attack patrol police team was arrested in Riyadh on Thursday. When the patrol police team spotted a car with covered number plate and other violations, they asked the driver to stop but he refused and that resulted in a chase, according to Brig. Gen. Ali Al-Rasheedi, spokesman of Riyadh Traffic Department. While speeding the car, the man threw bottles of soft drinks at the patrol team several times. During the chase, several patrol teams joined and blocked the road, leading to his arrest. Police started interrogating the man, who had a record of several traffic violations.
