‘Vision Zero' aimed at improving road safety
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 14 - 05 - 2015

ERICSSON participated in the 'Vision Zero Qatar-Sweden Power Talk', for the first time, with the aim of showcasing how the Ericsson Intelligent Transport System (ITS) can contribute to safer transportation in Qatar.
In line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and under the patronage of the Swedish Embassy in Doha the aim of the event was to introduce Sweden's Vision Zero, a leading road safety vision calling for cooperation between industry, academia and authorities. It's an ethical platform aiming to reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries in road traffic to Zero. Ericsson was represented in this event by Rutger Reman, Head of Industry and Society, Region Middle East; Shadi Sayed, Account Manager Industry and Society Qatar; and Philip Strydom, Head of Tranportation, Region Middle East.
Rutger Reman showcased ITS and how it can benefit Qatar's transport sector. ”If we can contribute to the development of the transportation sector where roads are safer and people are protected, then why shouldn't we? Now we have the solutions and the technology to create a more secure transport infrastructure in Qatar. Vision Zero is achievable; especially in light of the increase in the number of connected cars; the ICT infrastructure, which enables the Internet of Things; and Ericsson's Connected Traffic Cloud, where cars, roads and traffic authorities will be connected, resulting in safer roads,” said Rutger Reman, Head of Industry and Society, Ericsson Region Middle East.
Ericsson, provides solutions of intelligent transportation systems (ITS), based on location intelligence and location awareness embedded in the public mobile networks, thus providing efficient and reliable answer to the challenges of modern transportation, such as the efficient management and optimization of traffic on all levels, safety of all participants in traffic, management of incidental and critical situations, multimodal transport, energy efficiency, environmental protection and appropriate reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Noted participants from Qatar included Ministry of Interior, National Traffic Safety Committee, Hamad Medical Corporation, Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Supreme Council of Health, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning and Qatar University.
In addition, a number of participants from twhe transport sector in Sweden were present, including; SweRoad, the Swedish Transport Agency, Karolinska University Hospital, the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute, Ericsson, Saab, and Sensys Traffic among others. — SG
