JEDDAH — MKP opened IISJAA Cricket Tournament (ICT) with a 9-run win over Expendables here recently.
Batting first, MKP set a huge target of 191. Expendables, in reply, could manage only 182 for the loss of 9 wickets.
Mohammad Atif of MKP was named the Man of the Match for his 71 runs and 1 wicket.
The IISJAA Cricket Tournament is being organized by International Indian School Alumni Association (IISJAA) and sponsored by Al-Kabeer. Matches are played at Namoor Playground in Bani Malik.
Eight teams are taking part in the 12-over tournament. They are: Alumni Riders, Challengers, Expendables, Falcons, MKP, Royals, Royal Taj 04 and Shareef Khan.
Matches in this tape ball tournament are played on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The final is set for May 16.
Two matches were played on the opening day. Falcon won the second game thrashing Royals by 8 wickets. Royals posted 174. Falcons were home for the loss of two wickets with 7 balls to spare. Mohammad Usman of Falcons was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-rounder performance (80 runs and 2 wickets).
Abdul Lateef, marketing head of Al-Kabeer, and Mohammad Faseesh, president of TCF Jeddah, inaugurated the tournament. All the teams and a number of IISJ alumni were present at ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion IISJAA president Asim Zeeshan said: “Amjad, Nabeel and Nawaf came up with the cricket tournament idea and we readily agreed. The timing, with the World Cup just over and the Indian Premier League underway, somehow seemed just right.
“It feels good to see that ICT represents players of all ages. Our senior-most player is around 38, while the youngest is only 19,” he added.
The ICT Tournament is being organized by a 6-member committee comprising: Asim Zeeshan, Ali Mohiuddin Siddiqui, Atif Khan, Amjad Hassan, Nabeel Shaikh and Nawaf Yousuf. – SG
