DAMMAM — Although election to the 7-member managing committee of International Indian School Dammam went off peacefully, the turnout was a reflection of the parents' apathy toward the exercise. Only 25% of the eligible voters — around 2,180 people — cast their vote. The percentage this time was even lower than last year when the turnout was 2,400. The elected committee has two veterans and five newcomers. Mohammad Akhtar Hasnain retained his seat while Dr. Zain-ul Abideen was a member few years back. Newcomers are Abdus Salam K., Rasheed Cheriya Kothoor, Mohammad Abdul Waris, Irfan Iqbal Khan and J. Francis Borgio. A delighted Irfan Khan told Saudi Gazette: “ I have adopted a practical approach. I felt that making lofty plans during the campaigning period would not be fair. Now that I am in the committee, I shall use all my experience to plan for our children”. The list of the elected members would be sent to the Education Ministry for approval, saidschool principal and chief election commissioner Dr. E.K. Mohammad Shaffe. Indian embassy representative Hifzur Rehman was satisfied that with the smooth election process.
