NEW YORK — Gregorio Petit's three-run double highlighted a six-run first inning as the New York Yankees chased Tigers starter David Price early in a 13-4 win over the Tigers.
Chase Headley and Didi Gregorius drove in two runs apiece for New York (8-7) while Mark Teixeira added a three-run homer in the seventh. Left fielder Yoenis Cespedes had two hits and an RBI for the Tigers (11-4).
Rays 7, Red Sox 5 Down 5-1 in the sixth inning and in danger of a fifth straight loss, the Tampa Bay Rays rallied for a 7-5 win over the Boston Red Sox.
The Rays (7-8) tied the score with four runs in the sixth inning, then jumped ahead in the seventh on a double-play groundout and a solo home run by outfielder Jake Elmore. Boston fell to 9-6.
Twins 3, Royals 0 Mike Pelfrey gave the Minnesota Twins (6-9) a rare quality start and Brian Dozier stroked two hits, drove in a run and scored a run in a 3-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals (11-4).
Pelfrey gave up five hits, walked two and hit two before turning the lead over to the bullpen in the eighth inning.
White Sox 6, Indians 0 First baseman Jose Abreu drove in three runs and the Chicago White Sox got a solid outing from ace Jeff Samardzija in a 6-0 win over the Cleveland Indians (5-9).
Samardzija tossed six innings in the win while Abreu finished with a double and a home run for the White Sox (6-8).

National League Pirates 4, Cubs 3
Gregory Polanco hit his first home run of the season and made a pivotal catch to help the Pittsburgh Pirates defeat the Chicago Cubs 4-3. Polanco's homer increased the Pirates' (7-8) lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning. The Cubs (8-6) scored twice in the eighth to cut the deficit.
Marlins 6, Phillies 1 Jarred Cosart pitched six strong innings and the Miami Marlins benefited from some loose play by the Philadelphia Phillies to win 6-1 and end a five-game losing streak. Miami (4-11) scored four unearned runs off reliever Ken Giles in the eighth, courtesy of two errors as Philadelphia fell to 5-10.
Giants 3, Dodgers 2 Joe Panik's sacrifice fly to center field scored pinch runner Gregor Blanco in the bottom of the ninth inning, allowing the San Francisco Giants to edge the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2.
