RIYADH — The Council of Ministers on Monday welcomed the recent UN Security Council resolution on Yemen, saying that it gives a strong message to the Houthi rebels and also endorses the international community's support for the Kingdom's initiative to launch the ‘Decisive Storm Operation'.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman chaired the weekly session of the Cabinet at Al-Yamamah Palace here on Monday, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
In a statement to SPA following the session, Minister of Culture and Information Adel Al-Turaifi said the Cabinet considered the overwhelming vote of the Security Council as an embodiment of the will of the international community and its seriousness to stand by the Yemeni people.
According to the Cabinet, the UN resolution represents the global community's endorsement of the military operation launched by the Kingdom and its allies to support the Yemeni people in response to an appeal made by Yemen's President Abdrabbu Mansour Hadi.
The Cabinet also thanked King Salman for his order to allocate an amount of $274 million in humanitarian aid for Yemen through the United Nations in response to an appeal made by the UN to meet the humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people.
Al-Turaifi said the Cabinet commended the Kingdom's 17th position on the list of leading countries in the field of international trade, as its exports jumped by 7% and imports by 17% last year.
The Cabinet endorsed a memorandum of understanding signed between justice ministries of Saudi Arabia and Britain and Northern Ireland last year to improve bilateral cooperation.
According to the deal, both ministries will expand cooperation in several areas in the judicial field, including exchange of publications, researches and information related to judicial systems, administration of judicial bodies, holding seminars and conferences.
