Hekma College returned to the Kingdom last week after attending a conference in Bremen, Germany. The theme of the Bremen International Model United Nations Conference (BRIMUN), held at the Jacobs University, was ‘How far would you go for democracy?' Dr. Suhair H. Al-Quraishi, dean of the Dar Al-Hekma College, said that all the students benefited enormously from the moot and returned with fresh knowledge of the art of debate, conflict management and critical thinking. Four of the six students were sponsored by Mohammad Yousuf Naghi Motors. The aim of the moot held last month was to provide the participating students with adequate exposure through simulating debates and discussions that take place in the chambers of different United Nations organizations, wherein the participants play roles of diplomats. Muna A. Kadir, a banking and finance student at Dar Al-Hekma, who represented Romania at the conference said that she would never forget as to how they were able to convince 27 out of the 28 foreign delegates into passing a draft resolution that supported the rights of the Arabs in their conflict with Israel. Another student, Lamisse Bajunaid, said when they were leaving for the conference they were on a mission to learn. “Part of the learning experience was forming relations among future leaders and we are delighted that we succeeded in many ways,” she said. During the conference, BRIMUN delegates found themselves immersed in the complexities of some of the most pressing global issues ranging from human rights, food security, development aid, nuclear non-proliferation, interstate disputes, conflicts and wars. “Delegates then embarked on a journey of negotiations, diplomacy and cooperation and in the process acquired vital skills that could serve towards their integral education for leadership,” said Al
